Owner-Occupant & First-Buyer

First-Generation Homebuyer Programs (State-Specific Grants)

20+ states offer $10K–$25K forgivable grants specifically for buyers whose parents never owned a home.

Overview

First-Generation Homebuyer programs — active in CA (Dream For All), MA (ONE+Boston), MN First Gen, NY, NJ, MD, IL, VA, PA, and expanding — provide $10K–$150K in forgivable/deferred DPA to buyers whose parents (or the buyer previously) never owned a home. CA's Dream For All is a shared-appreciation model (state gets 20% of appreciation back); most others are forgivable after 5–10 years of occupancy. Income and price limits apply.
